PX, PX2, PX3 Ranger: Which Exhaust Fits Your Series and Why It Matters

The right exhaust for a PX-series Ranger comes down to two things: which engine you have, and whether your ute left the factory with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Earlier PX and PX2 Rangers without a DPF take a full turbo-back system. DPF-equipped PX2 and PX3 Rangers need a DPF-back system that bolts on behind the factory filter. Get that wrong and the system simply won't fit.
Why the series badge alone isn't enough
PX, PX2 and PX3 are the three updates of the same Ranger generation, so they look alike under the tray. The difference that matters for an exhaust is what sits behind the turbo. A non-DPF ute has a cat and a straight run back. A DPF ute has a filter in the system that has to stay there, so the new exhaust has to start after it.
That's why our product pages list the engine and DPF status, not just the badge. If you're not sure whether your Ranger has a DPF, check your owner's manual or call us with your VIN before you order.
PX and PX2 without a DPF: turbo-back
For non-DPF Rangers our Ignite PX/PX2 3.2L 3" turbo-back system suits the 3.2L five-cylinder (Duratorq P5AT), and the PX/PX2 2.2L 3" turbo-back system suits the 2.2L four-cylinder. Both pages list fitment as 2011–2016, in single, extra and dual cab, and both use the non-DPF fitting instructions.

Both are 3" (76mm) CNC mandrel-bent and come in aluminised or 409 stainless steel, with muffler, hotdog, straight pipe or diff-dump rear sections. The 3.2L kit also includes an EGT pyrometer boss and 10mm laser-cut flanges.
PX2 and PX3 with a DPF: DPF-back
If your Ranger has a factory DPF, the Ignite PX2/PX3 DPF-back system is the one to look at. It suits the 2.0L and 3.2L turbo diesels and keeps the factory DPF in place for emissions compliance. It bolts up to the factory DPF flange, with no cutting or welding.
It comes in 3" aluminised or 409 stainless, or a 4" 304 stainless straight-through, with muffler, hotdog, pipe-only or diff-dump options.
This system is listed for 2016–2022 PX2 and PX3 Rangers. If you have a Next-Gen Ranger (2022 on), it takes a different system. The 2.0L single and Bi-Turbo use our Next-Gen 2.0L DPF-back system, and the 3.0L V6 has its own.
Quick fitment guide
- PX/PX2 3.2L, no DPF: 3.2L 3" turbo-back
- PX/PX2 2.2L, no DPF: 2.2L 3" turbo-back
- PX2/PX3 2.0L or 3.2L, with DPF (2016–2022): 3" or 4" DPF-back
- Next-Gen 2.0L (2022 on): Next-Gen 2.0L DPF-back
Every system comes with a full fitting kit. You can see the whole range, including Next-Gen and Raptor, on our Ignite Ford exhaust page.
Aluminised or stainless?
Aluminised is the budget option and carries a 2-year warranty. 409 stainless costs more but carries a 10-year warranty and handles salt, mud and creek crossings better. If you're keeping the ute long-term, stainless is usually worth it. We cover that choice in more detail in Aluminised vs Stainless Steel Exhausts.
