Mandrel Bends Exhaust Tubing

Mandrel bends keep the full pipe diameter through the bend, so your exhaust flows as well around corners as it does in a straight line. Choose aluminised mild steel, 409 stainless or 304 stainless bends from 1.25" up to 4", with 45°, 60°, 90° and 180° bends depending on size.

Mandrel bent vs crush bent

A crush bend squeezes the pipe as it bends, narrowing the bore and restricting flow. A mandrel bend is formed over an internal support, so the pipe keeps its full diameter and round shape through the bend. That's why performance exhausts use mandrel bends.

Choosing angles and sizes

Match the bend to your pipe's outside diameter. For angles you can't buy off the shelf, cut a 90° bend down to the angle you need. Fabricators often build a whole system this way.

Matching materials

Use the same material as your pipe so the whole system resists corrosion evenly and welds cleanly. Aluminised is the budget choice, 409 stainless lasts longer, and 304 stainless resists corrosion best and stays brighter.

FAQ

What is a mandrel bend? A pipe bend formed over an internal support, called a mandrel, so the pipe keeps its full diameter and round shape all the way through the bend.

Does mandrel bent vs crush bent matter? Yes, for flow. A crush bend narrows the pipe at every bend, which adds restriction. Mandrel bends keep the full bore, which is why performance and 4x4 exhaust systems use them.

Can I cut a mandrel bend to a different angle? Yes. Most fabricators cut 90° bends down to the angle they need, which lets you build almost any shape from a few stock bends.
