Hotdog Mufflers
A hotdog muffler is a compact, straight-through muffler that fits where a full-size muffler won't. It's a popular choice on 4x4s and utes for a deeper tone with minimal restriction. The range includes universal perforated hotdogs in 2", 2.25", 2.5" and 3", a 2.5" 409 stainless hotdog resonator, and bolt-in hotdog sections for selected vehicles.
What is a hotdog muffler?
A hotdog is a small cylindrical muffler with a perforated core running straight through it, wrapped in sound-absorbing packing. Gas flows straight through, so restriction stays low. For the full explanation, read our guide What is a Hotdog Muffler?
Hotdog or full-size muffler?
A full-size muffler takes out more volume. A hotdog trades some of that quietening for a much smaller body and a deeper, more noticeable tone. It's the better fit where space is tight or you want more exhaust note.
Where hotdogs fit
On 4x4s and utes, a hotdog often goes where the factory muffler sat, or after the DPF or cat in an upgraded system. Match the inlet to your pipe's outside diameter and check there's room for the body length.

FAQ
What is a hotdog muffler? A compact, cylindrical straight-through muffler. Gas flows through a perforated core wrapped in packing, which takes the edge off the noise with very little restriction.
Are hotdog mufflers loud? Louder than a full-size muffler, because the body is smaller and there's less packing. Most people choose them for a deeper, more noticeable tone. Check your state's vehicle noise rules before fitting.
Hotdog or resonator? A hotdog lowers overall volume a little and changes the tone. A resonator targets the drone you hear at highway speed. Some systems run both.
Will a hotdog fit my 4x4? Most likely, if you match the inlet to your pipe size and have room for the body length. A 3" hotdog suits most 3" turbo-diesel 4x4 systems.
